Achieving the perfect face base can be a tricky one. There's a million and one skin concerns that you may have - acne, blemishes, age spots, sun damage, fine lines, rosacea, pigmentation or sallowness, the list is endless. This guide should help you achieve the most flawless face base possible. With a touch of colour correcting to achieve an even skin tone, the best primer around and the most amazing foundation - you can achieve a beautiful face base in next to no time at all...
Step One: Skin Prep
When doing my makeup, I start of by washing, cleansing, toning and moisturising my face. These steps are not to be missed out, especially if your striving for beautiful skin, long-term. After my skin has soaked up all of the nutrients from the above steps and is no longer tacky, I will then apply my holy grail primer, the 24k Gold Miracle Finisher by Bio-Essence. This primer seals all of the nutrients into your skin from the previous steps, ensuring your skin continues to receive goodness throughout the day, while locking out pollutants and free-radials.Step Two: Colour Correct
Next up, I will apply my favourite ever colour-correcting cream from Pixi. I use their Awakening Apricot Correction Concentrate cream beneath my eyes to mask dark circles, around my nose to hide any sallow tones and anywhere else that may have pigmentation with blue/green undertones. If you have redness, angry spots/acne or rosacea, I recommend applying a green toned colour correcting cream as this will neutralise any red/orange undertones.Step Three: Foundation
After applying any colour correcting creams, I will then apply my foundation. At the moment, I am besotted with the Laura Geller Baked Liquid Radiance foundation. This foundation contains colour correcting pigments, so if you don't have/can't get ahold of colour correcting creams, this foundation can work just as well alone. I have loved Laura Geller's products for years, they're so luxurious and always work incredibly well on my skin. Her Baked Liquid Radiance foundation is a dream to apply, I usually use a flat-topped foundation brush or stippling foundation brush, but using your fingers or a beauty blender can work just as well also. This foundation achieves a full-coverage look with a demi-matte finish that doesn't dry the skin, flake off or appear patchy. If you have fine lines, there's no need to worry as the foundation doesn't sit in fine lines, instead it covers them and ensures your skin looks radiant all day long.Step Four: Conceal and cover
Once my foundation has been blended in, I will then apply my concealer. I've been obsessed with Too Faced's Born This Way Concealer - it's a stunning creamy concealer that blends in perfectly and leaves my skin looking flawless and camera ready. I use the lightest shade in concealer, because it also acts well as a subtle highlighter as well as covering up any blemishes. I find that this is THE only concealer that covers my spots and pigmentation up really really well!I then usually touch my foundation up and set both my concealer and foundation in place with a baked foundation formula, another Laura Geller product! Laura Geller's Balance n Brighten is the perfect product to set your base into place with as it doesn't look cake-y while still covering up what it needs to and colour correcting anything else that may need it.
Step Five: Bronze it up
The Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer is my absolute favourite bronzer - it's just so gorgeous, a dream to blend in and leaves me with the most beautiful sun kissed glow. If you want an easily blended bronzer, that doesn't look orange, doesn't look streaky and stays all day long, this is the bronzer for you. Not only does it contour well, bronze well and not look fake, but it smells bloody beautiful.. good enough to eat in-fact!If you're looking for a longer lasting bronzed look, then I highly recommend my mum and I's go-to face bronzer which also acts as a self-tan! Vita Liberata's Trystal Minerals Self Tanning Bronzing Minerals in Sunkissed is the most amazing loose bronzing powder ever. If you're not one to wear a lot of makeup but are looking for a sun kissed glow, then this mineral based bronzer is perfect for you. Apply over the top of your foundation or day cream/moisturiser, the Trstal Minerals interact with your base to deliver a lasting tan even when you remove your makeup at the end of the day! Amazing, right!?
Step Six: Get ready to glow
Once I have bronzed, I usually highlight - highlighting is life and we all just love to glow, don't we!? I'm absolutely LOVING Laura Geller's Baked Gelato Illuminator in Gilded Honey at the moment - it's stunning and leaves my skin looking flawless, illuminated and well, just glow-y! I love applying this with my fingers. I apply to my cheekbones, cheeks, nose and brow bones! If you want to glow without looking glittery, this is the highlighter for you - it really does give you that lit-from-within glow that we all want and aspire to achieve.Step Seven: Blush and done
If you want to add a little more depth, then you can apply a natural toned blush. My favourite being Charlotte Tilbury's Cheek to Chic Swirl and Pop in First Love. It's a gorgeous natural blush that adds depth and colour without it looking false or too bright and un-blended.I hope you found this flawless face base guide helpful and interesting. I adore all of the products that I have featured and use them all on a day-to-day basis. These are my holy grail face base products and I can't get enough of them - they work well, efficiently and leave my skin looking flawless all day long, even in this scorching hot summer heat! Although most of the products that I use for my face base in this post are perceived as 'high-end' you can easily follow the same steps with drugstore makeup or with your own makeup that you usually use on a day-to-day basis. I have so much drugstore makeup that I use on a day-to-day basis but I definitely find that these higher end products work slightly better for me.
What's your face base routine? I'd love to know, so leave me and my other readers a comment below with your top face base tips!
